A region steeped in history, yet surprisingly cutting edge
Charleston, South Carolina checks all the boxes for hosting an extraordinary OCEANS Conference. The port city houses the headquarters of NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management, the federal agency tasked with the implementation of the Coastal Zone Management Act – keeping the natural environment, built environment, quality of life, and economic prosperity of our coastal areas in balance. The NOAA Office for Coastal Management also manages the Digital Coast – the industry’s go-to source for data, tools, partnerships, and training most needed by communities and industry in regards to coastal management. The area boasts active governmental, military, and academic research facilities and initiatives, providing new perspectives and practices for the industry, as well as untapped audiences for exhibitors. In addition to its industry pull, Charleston is a tourist’s dream. The city was voted the #1 US destination by the discerning readers of Condé Nast Traveler (2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011) and Travel + Leisure (2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013) magazines.
